The University’s history goes back to 1941 when Hertfordshire County Council entered in to partnership with the de Havilland Aircraft Company to train 15 and 16 year old aircraft apprentices. Then, in 1952, Hatfield Technical College was built by Hertfordshire County Council. It achieved university status in 1992 and is now focused on becoming internationally renowned as the UK’s leading business-facing university. 

The University of Hertfordshire educates about 18,000 students studying for Bachelors, Masters, and research degrees. The university consists of ten Schools: Business, Computer Science, Creative Arts, Education, Engineering and Technology, Health and Social Work, Humanities, Law, Life and Medical Sciences, and Physics Astronomy Mathematics.  The University has been awarded Silver in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) ranking.  The School of Computer Science runs one of the oldest BSc (Hons) programmes in Computer Science (50 years), and is a pioneer in online distance learning through BSc (Hons) degree programmes in Computer Science and Information Technology. The School has world leading research in robotics, software engineering, and biologically inspired computation. 

Cyber Security is taught and researched in the School of Computer Science, which has state of the art facilities for both offensive and defensive cyber operations and digital forensics.
