Founded in 1883, Cardiff University is established as one of Britain’s leading research universities. We excel in producing high quality, innovative research which translates into benefits both locally and worldwide. Cardiff University was ranked 5th amongst UK universities in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) based on quality and is a member of the Russell Group. Cardiff University is the 2nd university nationally in the REF on rankings based on impact.

Cardiff University is the 9th largest university in the UK in terms of student numbers. We have a diverse student population with students coming from more than 100 countries and with a range of backgrounds. We are dedicated to promoting equality across the University. Our academic staff are driven by creativity and curiosity and many are leaders in their fields, creating a stimulating environment for learning. Our graduates are sought-after by employers in the UK!

Cardiff University’s Centre for Cyber Security Research (CCSR) is a leading UK academic research unit for cyber security analytics. The CCSR unites interdisciplinary expertise, linking resources, research and education across the University. We focus on the fusion of data science and artificial intelligence methods with interdisciplinary insights into cyber risk, threat intelligence, attack detection and situational awareness. The Centre is recognised by the UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) in partnership with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) as an Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (ACE-CSR).

Cyber Security is one of the priority areas of the School of Computer Science and Informatics at Cardiff University. Examples of our research in cyber security include the machine classification of malware in various forms (e.g. binary executables and web links), mathematical models for the quantification and forecasting of network security risk, security of industrial control systems (e.g. SCADA systems), and Cloud security.
